Furniture that carries load starts with a core that will not sag

Furniture is where a panel is seen and stressed at the same time. A shelf holds books, a top takes weight and wear, and every joint depends on a fastener staying put. Vaultwood Core™, the specified premium MDF core, is built to do both jobs.

Modulus of rupture over 4,500 psi[4] resists the slow sag that turns a straight shelf into a smile, and 45 to 49 pcf density[2] gives a dense, uniform body that machines to a crisp edge and paints flat with no grain telegraphing. Screw-holding of 275 to 350 lbf[4] keeps knock-down fittings and hinges tight.

Spec guidance: for spanning shelves and tops, respect span-to-thickness limits and add a stretcher or thicker core on long runs rather than trusting the panel alone[5]. Specify Vaultwood Core in premium MDF, not HDF, when you want a paint-grade or veneer-ready surface with predictable machining. For furniture used in bedrooms and children's rooms, specify the NAF option with TSCA Title VI[7] and CARB Phase 2[8] documentation.

The failure to avoid: a shelf that bows under its intended load, or a painted top that reveals a wavy, under-dense core after finishing. Both are core problems wearing a finish's clothes.

When furniture becomes a moving, load-bearing system, such as a bookcase that doubles as a hidden door, manufacturers engineer the assembly on this core, specifying hardware to suit the finished assembly and its load.
